What is the exact model of my vehicle?
Before placing an order or sending us a question, we recommend that you check the exact model of your vehicle: this is shown on the registration document for your car or motorbike (vehicle make - type/variant/version - model - cylinder capacity - year of 1st registration).
Some makes (AUDI, BMW, etc.) have specific serial numbers (also listed on our search engine), for example: AUDI A4 8D or BMW 5 E34. To identify them, refer to the vehicle version or the serial number on your vehicle registration document.
The BMC AIR FILTER brand
BMC Air Filter is a world leader in the production of high-performance air filters and intake systems for the automotive sector, both for road use and for competition (Formula 1, MotoGP, etc.).
The company operates both in the aftermarket, with a wide range of replacement air filters, and as an OEM (original parts manufacturer), designing and developing complete Tier 1 filtration systems (airboxes) for the world's leading carmakers.
BMC is headquartered in Medicina (Bologna), Italy, in the heart of Motor Valley, with branches in China, India and over 90 distributors worldwide.
What types of filters does BMC produce?
- Cotton air filters for standard airboxes (replacement air filters): these replace the original paper filter, are available in various shapes and sizes and are all specific to most cars and motorbikes on the market.
- Conical filters for direct intake: for cars and motorbikes, these require the original airbox to be removed. These filters are available in TWIN AIR and SINGLE AIR versions.
- "CDA" carbon intake boxes: this high-performance BMC carbon intake system has been on the market for many years for cars and is available in universal and specific versions for different car models.
- "OTA" carbon intake boxes: this is a new BMC carbon intake system for cars (a direct evolution of the CDA), available in universal and specific versions for different car models.
- "DIA" intake boxes: this is BMC's junior intake system for cars, made of polyurethane instead of carbon.
- "CRF" carbon racing air filters: this is BMC's latest carbon intake system designed for supercars and sportier production cars, as well as ultra-sport motorbikes. This product is available for cars and motorbikes in the specific version only.
All BMC filters are made exclusively from pre-oiled cotton and can be washed and regenerated.
Can BMC air filters be re-used?
ALL BMC filters are washable and regenerable. The filter material is a special type of cotton soaked in low-viscosity oil that guarantees high air permeability but at the same time retains foreign particles. The filter can be washed with water and a suitable detergent. Once washed, a new layer of oil should be applied. Use les produits nettoyants certifiés BMC to preserve the life of your filter. See also our blog page, in video BMC offers its motorbike filters in 1, 2 or even 3 versions. What are the applications of each model? All you need to know about filters, racing filters and carbon filters for motorbikes
Why is a cotton air filter more efficient than a conventional air filter?
Generally speaking, cars and motorbikes must have a totally efficient particle filtration system to avoid any risk of foreign bodies passing through and damaging the mechanical components downstream of the intake system.
Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) air filters are made of paper and their main function is to protect the engine. These filters have a high resistance to air flow, which in turn reduces engine pressure and performance.
BMC air filters are made from cotton and, thanks to its combination of different layers of low-viscosity oils, this filter not only allows a greater flow of air to pass through, but is also capable of channelling all impurities as small as 7 microns! What's more, unlike traditional paper filters that have to be replaced during maintenance, BMC filters can be washed and reused, so they last as long as your vehicle.
The BMC air filter is also manufactured from a single mould, with no gluing at the ends to prevent any loss of air flow. The special rubber used in the BMC filtration system is also virtually non-deformable over time and offers excellent adhesion to any shape of airbox.
Used by top teams in Formula 1, MotoGP, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, etc., the BMC filter improves engine combustion quality for better performance, engine protection and fuel economy.
What is the added value of a BMC dynamic intake box?
Thanks to the dynamic air intake system, the engine's performance in terms of power and torque is considerably improved: the air is delivered to the airbox at a much higher speed than the intake capacity of traditional filtration systems.
Dynamic air intake is made even more efficient by the carbon-fibre flow switch (for CDA and OTA boxes) located inside the airbox.
How do I install a BMC replacement air filter?
BMC replacement air filters replace the original paper filters. Open the air box, simply look at how the original filter is fitted and position the BMC filter in the same way.
Is there a risk of damaging the airflow sensor by installing a BMC filter?
No. However, to avoid any risk, make sure you don't use too much oil during the filter regeneration phase (there mustn't be too much for it to start leaking).
Do BMC air filters need to be oiled before use?
No, all BMC air filters are sold pre-coated with oil.
What is the difference between a standard motorbike air filter and a racing motorbike air filter?
For certain motorbike models, BMC offers two types of air filter for the same engine: standard and racing.
- Standard air filter: this is a standard replacement air filter, specific to different types of motorbike. The filter element (like car filters) consists of four layers of cotton soaked in low-viscosity oil. These are very high-performance filters compared with the original paper air filters.
- The racing air filter: this is an air filter that increases the classic air flow offered by BMC products to a more extreme level. By reducing the cotton layers from four to three, the airflow is even greater. This is why Racing filters are recommended exclusively for track sport use, as the increased airflow can weaken carburation (more air entering than necessary) or injection (the control unit may not be able to handle the new stoichiometric ratio correctly). To get around this problem, it may be necessary to reconfigure the control unit, thereby achieving a significant increase in performance. Racing filters are identified by the "race" legend at the bottom of the product code and by a yellow line on the filter element.
What is a universal conical filter and how do I choose one?
Universal conical filters can be fitted to any type of car or motorbike, after removing the original filter housing.
BMC conical filters are available in two versions: SA (Single Air) with single side airflow, available with plastic or carbon plate, and TW (Twin Air) with side and centre airflow, available with carbon, metal or plastic plate.
The choice of a universal conical filter depends, first and foremost, on the diameter of the pipe connecting it to the engine and the space freed up after removal of the original airbox (basically, a larger filter guarantees a greater quantity of air circulating in the combustion chamber, with tangible benefits in terms of vehicle performance). Since engines need fresh air, it is important to avoid installing the universal conical filter on the turbine and to insulate it thermally from heat sources under the bonnet.
To optimise the installation and positioning of the filter, original BMC accessories are available, such as flexible hoses, reducers and silicone sleeves.
Is the BMC dynamic intake kit easy to install?
All BMC filters are sold with the installation manual and the accessories required for assembly. The universal versions of OTA, CDA and conical filters may require additional assembly accessories in order to adapt correctly to your vehicle (hoses, elbows, reducers, etc.). This is not essential, but if you wish, you can entrust the installation of your BMC kit to a specialist (for example, by assembling an air intake in a particularly favourable location, you can considerably increase the speed of the air passing through the airbox, for a greater quantity of fresh air to the engine).
How does the warranty on BMC products work?
BMC products are guaranteed for a period of two years from the date on which they were purchased on our online site. If a defect is found, BMC will replace the product free of charge, excluding any additional costs charged to BMC, the warranty being limited to the replacement of defective and/or non-compliant material, provided that the original warranty certificate is presented.
The warranty certificate issued for all BMC products
Filtreairbmc.com is an official supplier of the BMC brand. All the BMC products we sell are supplied with the BMC warranty and liability certificate.
This certificate must be presented when activating the warranty for any non-conforming/defective product: please keep it safe.
Are there any contraindications to installing dynamic boxes (OTA, CDA, CRF, DIA)?
BMC intake systems are considered racing/racing products, so we recommend that you check the regulations in force in your country regarding any limitations.
How do you choose the right universal version of CDA, OTA or DIA?
First of all, check how much space you have after removing the original airbox. Then choose a version that fits the space (not too big). If possible, avoid any restrictions on air flow: check your intake diameter carefully and compare it with the intake diameter of the BMC air system; the more similar they are, the better!
Tip: if the dimensions of the two airboxes differ slightly, we offer you additional accessories, sold separately (connection reducers, hoses, etc.) specially designed by BMC to perfect the installation of the BMC intake system (don't hesitate to ask a mechanic for advice on choosing these accessories).
We also suggest that you reprogram your electronic control unit to optimise the stoichiometric ratio supplied by the air intake system.
How do I maintain my BMC filter?
All BMC filters are washable and regenerable.
The filter can be washed with water and a suitable detergent. Once washed, a new layer of oil must be applied.
We recommend that you only use original BMC maintenance kits, as other products may not be effective or may permanently damage the filter (invalidating the BMC warranty).
