All you need to know about filters, racing filters and carbon filters for motorbikes
BMC offers 1, 2 or even 3 models of air filter, depending on the model of motorbike. What are the differences?
The basic model, offered for each model, already has a braided cotton filter element, reinforced by stainless steel filters. These 'basic' filters are already of a higher quality and performance than the original. In fact, motorbikes are originally fitted with filters with a cardboard filter element. The sportiest bikes are no exception to this rule (the factories make money on components that are invisible to test journalists): CBR 1000 RR-R SP 2020, Panigale V4, R1M, etc... yes... all these models are fitted with a cardboard-based air filter as standard.
As every racer knows, the first step before working on the engine is to give it a bit more air.
For the sportiest models, BMC also offers a Racing air filter. The pressure drop associated with the filter element is slightly lower than that of the standard model.
BMC also offers carbon air filters for certain competition models. The filter structure supporting the filter element is made of carbon, with the following advantages:
- No deformation due to proximity to the engine,
- Reduced filter vibration,
- Reduced heat transfer thanks to carbon's low thermal conductivity.
